How brave are you? We are a high-tech company providing machine tools and laser technology, and are looking for people who can face new challenges with a fresh mind. As an independent family company, we offer you the freedom and trust to put your brave ideas into practice. With you on board, we would like to power ahead with the digital networking of the manufacturing industry. Our passion and creative drive ensure that we are an innovative force – across the globe at over 80 TRUMPF locations. Benefit from challenging tasks and projects that you can work on independently, excellent support, and numerous offers for students. Students rate their practical experience at TRUMPF with an average of 4.5 out of 5 points. Gain valuable practical experience yourself Background Modern chip production relies on etch processing of wafers in plasma chambers. Complex 3D chip architectures require special plasma characteristics, which in general are provided by various DC and RF high power generators. Ideally, new RF generator functions should be tested on an actual plasma chamber designed for certain applications. However, such plasma chambers are usually not available for the early-stage generator development. This work aims at building a plasma load emulator using a Software Defined Radio (SDR). The emulator should transmit RF signals representing the dynamic impedance changes of a plasma load. In this way, control algorithms for RF generators could be tested flexibly, which enables reproducible validation and fast development. Your tasks Study available plasma models and their implementation in pure software Study real RF loads with plasma characteristics Study feasibility of emulating a plasma load with an SDR Setup RF generator control and SDR to provide closed loop operation emulating a linear load Introduce more and more complex plasma characteristics into the SDR based emulator What we are looking for Bachelor or Master student in last semester in electrical engineering (RF technology, communications engineering), software development or physics Initial experience in software development Programming (e.g. C/C++, python, Matlab, LabView) skills Knowledge in RF Ideally: experience with software defined radios (SDR), e.g. Red Pitaya or Analog Devices Good to have: knowledge in circuit design and plasma physics Structured and independent way of working and ability to work in a team What We Offer Flexible working hours On-site or mobile work options Networking opportunities with other students Early assumption of responsibility Discounted meals in the company restaurant Convenient access to public transportation Location: Freiburg im Breisgau Start Date: Summer semester 2025 Duration: 6 months Have we convinced you?
