Offer Description
The Faculty of Medicine of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Department for Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy (Chair: Professor Dr. med. A. Reif), invite applications for the following position as public employee starting as soon as possible:
Professor (W1 tenure track) of Precision Psychiatry
This position is being established in the context of the LOEWE-Centre DYNAMIC (Dynamic Network Approach of Mental Health), which was newly established by the state of Hesse and involves the Departments of Psychiatry of the University Hospitals Frankfurt, Gießen and Marburg, the Institutes of Psychology at the Universities of Frankfurt, Giessen and Marburg, along with other cooperation partners (TU Darmstadt, DIPF, Ernst Strüngmann Institute/MPI). DYNAMIC is based on the assumption that mental disorders can be represented as dynamic networks of psychopathological, psychological and biological processes and can be analysed using modern methods of systemic and computational neuroscience. The Professorship for Precision Psychiatry is primarily intended to further develop methods of network analysis and applying them to both existing and new data sets. This approach shall then enable precision medicine in the context of mental illness. The professorship is expected to be involved in sub-projects, as well as in the central recruitment project of DYNAMIC.
The call for applications is aimed at you if you are in an early stage of your academic career and have not yet completed a habilitation or achieved equivalent qualifications. As a rule, your postdoctoral academic activity should not exceed four years. The professorship is initially limited to six years; after a successful evaluation, it will be converted into a permanent, higher-ranking professorship (W2) in accordance with HessHG § 70, paragraphs 1, 2, and 4.
Proven scientific expertise in the field of precision psychiatry and case-based modeling, as well as in the research of imaging biomarkers and network analyses in mental disorders, is required. Additionally, extensive experience in the field of machine learning, including the implementation of software infrastructure in a scientific context, is expected.
The Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital Frankfurt offers a dynamic, research-focused environment with diverse clinical and scientific opportunities, as well as a young, collegial and motivated team. The Department contributes to many national and international research networks; active participation therein is desired. In addition, there are numerous opportunities for cooperation with other Departments of the University Hospital, as well as other faculties of the Goethe University and non-university research institutions in Frankfurt.
Furthermore, a high level of scientific qualification (completed university degree in human medicine, psychology, neurosciences, informatics, or similar studies, doctorate degree) with international publications and a high level of scientific commitment are expected. A constructive willingness for close, interdisciplinary cooperation in research and teaching is a given. Commitment to contributing to curriculum development and participating in academic self-administration is expected.
The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, and 68 and 70 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
Goethe University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion. In particular, we are welcoming applications by qualified women and people with a migrant background. At Goethe University, a special emphasis is placed on creating and sustaining a family-friendly work and research environment. Where applicants are otherwise equally qualified, preference is given to candidates with disabilities or equivalent. The same applies to women in fields in which they are under-represented.
To apply, please submit a CV, a list of publications, an overview of your research and teaching activities as well as transcripts and a selection of recent course evaluations online at https://berufungsportal.uni-frankfurt.de by 30th April 2025.
