Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as over 100 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at nine sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.
Do you want to get a taste of practical work during your studies? Great, as we are always looking for new talents!
What you will do
Our fields of research are very diverse ...
At our site in Oldenburg, we focus on aerodynamics and numerical wind energy meteorology. We are always looking for active support, which offers you insights into the latest research and development projects. Are you wondering what that would look like? To name just one example, you can apply your knowledge and expertise to improve and validate the accuracy of wind farm shadow flow models. Perhaps you are more interested in the simulation of wind turbine aerodynamics? Or maybe you enjoy programming? We are still the right place to be! Are you passionate about weather or climate change and its impact on wind energy generation? Those are all topics which are relevant to us. Hydrogen is more your thing? Great, as we also deal with flow simulation in electrolysis at our site. Get actively involved; we are keen to hear your ideas! As an international oriented IWES-team, we highly appreciate an open exchange, whether this be in German or English. Respectful cooperation is also very important to us.
What you bring to the table
What is your background?
Depending on the area of employment, a different field of study can also be suitable for joining us. If you are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Meteorology, Physics, Oceanography, Mathematics, or IT, that is a particularly good match for our research fields. Have you already come into contact with wind energy or fluid mechanics as part of your studies? Perhaps you also had the opportunity to deepen your theoretical knowledge through internships or part-time jobs? Do you want to expand your knowledge here and contribute your ideas? Then we look forward to meeting you!
What you can expect
What we can offer you ...
We offer various opportunities to join us as a student. Whether it is an internship, where you gain a comprehensive insight into the areas of work, or the role of a student assistant, which is easy to combine with your studies. Are you looking for an exciting topic for your thesis and do you want to delve deeply into a topic scientifically? Together, we will find the right path for you! We know that studying can also be very demanding and requires a certain level of flexibility. That is no problem here, as – in agreement with your colleagues – you can decide flexibly what days and hours to work. Temporarily, you can even work remotely, depending on the job.
