There is a
professorship (W2) in Computer Science (d/m/w), with specialisation in Robot Manipulation
in the Computer Science department at the Sankt Augustin campus available as soon as possible.
The contract is permanent.
Your responsibilities:
You will
1. provide courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Computer Science, Business Informatics and especially in the international Master’s programme “Autonomous Systems” of the department in English and German, depending on the programme to which the course belongs.
2. carry out research and development projects, source and manage third-party-funded projects and participate in science transfer.
3. support domestic, international and interdisciplinary collaboration with academic, business and societal institutions.
4. actively engage in the university’s system of academic autonomy.
5. contribute to implementing the University Development Plan, in particular with regard to sustainability targets.
6. participate in the establishment and development of study programmes, primarily in the area of Autonomous Systems.
7. engage in the (co-)supervision of PhD students, e.g., via the PhD programme of the Graduate Institute of NRW (Promotionskolleg NRW).
8. play an active role in the activities and development of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems (A2S) and the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it).
9. initiate, acquire and manage research and development activities, including the acquisition of third-party funding, especially in the fields of motion planning, robot manipulation, and human-robot collaboration.
10. mentor and prepare our student team for national and international robotics competitions.

What we expect:
You must
11. meet the employment requirements set out in Section 36 of the Nordrhein-Westfalen Hochschulgesetz completed and relevant academic degree special ability for scientific work (PhD degree) at least 5 years of relevant work experience, including at least 3 years outside of academic area (or habilitation equivalent experience)
12. be prepared and able to provide courses in English
13. be willing to help establish and develop our study programmes and assist in introducing innovative digital teaching formats on an ongoing basis
14. be willing to take gender and diversity as well as sustainability into account as quality criteria in the areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer
15. have extensive knowledge and experience in at least two of the following fields of robotics and autonomous systems: Robot Learning (including but not limited to learning from demonstration, (deep) reinforcement learning for robotics), Motion Planning (for manipulation / grasping), Forward & Inverse Kinematics, Robot Control, Human-Robot Collaboration, Cognition-enabled Manipulation, Software Engineering for Autonomous Mobile Manipulators
16. have relevant work experience in one or more of the following robotics-related application domains: Healthcare, Agile Manufacturing, Logistics, Circular Economy, Smart Mobility, Smart Cities, Smart Retail, Smart Homes, Industry 5.0, Robots for Sustainability
17. have hands-on experience in programming real robotic systems, especially mobile or stationary robotic manipulators
18. have experience in research collaborations with international partners
In addition, experience teaching at a university or comparable institution, experience developing new teaching concepts and content, and experience supervising bachelor’s and master’s students is desirable. Previous experience acquiring third-party funding for research and development projects and a good network within the German and international research community is an advantage. Experience in the (co-)supervision of PhD theses is an advantage.
