The EHS Leader Central EMEA reports to the Sr. EHS Manager EMEA. The Leader is responsible for complex organizational and technical work in a wide range of EHS disciplines. They will work on tactical and operational improvement initiatives to reduce risk and enhance compliance levels. This person will work with a team that supports the region. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the individual is comfortable providing hands-on support for day-to-day operations in managing safety and processes. Topics include, but are not limited to, personal protective equipment, traffic, safety training, electrical, emergency response, fire, equipment safety, ergonomics, energy, chemicals, environmental, health risk management, and audits.
The primary responsibility of this position is to lead the development and execution of EHS management initiatives, risk reduction, and stakeholder engagement throughout multiple countries and locations within the region. The candidate must work well on both self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by market leaders, managers, safety representatives, and employees. The ideal candidate takes pride in their leadership, organizational, and communication skills, as well as their analytical abilities and attention to detail. What You’ll Do
* Develop, implement, and execute short, mid, and long-term plans with EHS objectives in the region.
* Continuously improve and drive health and safety programs within the region by engaging leaders.
* Manage legal compliance in the regions and support and educate leaders, managers, and safety representatives.
* Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, plans, training, instructions, processes, and procedures.
* Interface with local and regional regulatory agencies on permitting, reporting, and related issues.
* Perform EHS safety audits and risk assessments in your regions and address recommendations.
* Assist leadership with the incident reporting and analysis process and the implementation of actions.
* Apply human organizational performance and operational learning to understand the context drivers.
* Record and maintain workplace incidents and near misses and conduct corrective/preventive analyses.
* Design safe workspaces and create policies for employees that minimize job-related hazards.
* Manage safety programs such as risk reduction, hazard communication, emergency, and fire safety.
* Ensure activities related to waste management are executed in compliance with regulations.
* Maintain relationships with all levels of the organization to integrate EHS into operational focus.
* Conduct education and training for health and safety required within the EHS Management System.
* Analyze EHS data and report trends to recommend and support plans for corrective action.
What You’ll Bring
* SIFA Safety Certification Germany – in order to represent Tesla’s German entities in EHS matters.
* BSB Fire Safety Certification Germany - preferred to represent Tesla’s German entities.
* Safety-related experience and evidence or reference of exceptional ability in this field.
* Excellent written and verbal language skills in English and German.
* Able to influence and communicate effectively with all levels of management.
* Knowledge of national, and preferably European and global regulatory agencies and requirements.
* Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing demands and deadlines.
* Proactive, as well as detail and results-oriented with a strong desire to succeed through challenges.
* Willingness to travel between sites and markets in your region - approximately 30% of the time.
* Based in Germany – Berlin area. Ability to prioritize and serve multiple sites and countries in-region.
* Mastery of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
