The focus of GNSS Reflectometry lies on the usage of signals from navigation satellites for remote sensing of the Earth’s Atmosphere and Surface with ground and satellite based techniques. Main observation data are from global and regional GNSS ground networks, dedicated ground and flight experiments and from several Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites. Artificial Intelligence in GNSS Reflectometry domain has been promisingly resulting in enhanced accuracy and quality of data products. The derived geophysical parameters, e.g., Wind velocity and Earth’s surface properties, as soil moisture, can be used in several fields of Earth System Science. To support our GNSS Reflectometry team, we look for new colleague. The position combines recent and innovative research tasks under operational aspects within an international research environment with interdisciplinary cooperation partners.
Your responsibilities:
1. Development of AI models for GNSS reflectometry data processing for meteorological applications, such as measurements of wind velocity/direction, vegetation and soil moisture under consideration of operational aspects and the integration of signals of all satellite systems including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou
2. Validation of the GNSS Reflectometry AI models, using data from other independent techniques, such as satellite radars and in-situ measurements to improve their quality and characterize the errors, accuracy and precision
3. Active support of the cooperation with partner institutions for the operational application of GNSS Reflectometry based data in atmospheric research, weather forecast, environment monitoring and climate studies
Your qualifications:
4. MSc degree in Geodesy, Remote Sensing, Meteorology, Physics, Geophysics
5. Experience with AI development for GNSS data processing and model validation
6. First publication in the development and application AI and deep learning in GNSS reflectometry domain
7. Experience with the development of scientific software packages, e.g. in Python and/or Matlab, good knowledge of UNIX/Linux and programming concepts
Special Skills:
8. Very good English skills
9. Adaptability to a multi-disciplinary and international team with the appropriate communicative competence
10. High motivation and self-dependency
What we offer:
11. Ambitious and varied tasks in a dynamic and international research environment
