Job description
The future holder of the post (f/m/nb) will represent polymer engineering in research and academic education and head a working group at the Materials Science and Engineering Unit of IAM (WK). The professorship is associated with an executive position in the Department of Polymer Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT in Pfinztal.
In the context of polymer engineering, the professorship is expected to focus on polymer materials and their processing, material composites, their characterization, their circularity/lifecycle assessment, and on the related process, plant, and tool technologies. The focus should lie on functional compounds and compounding technologies, polymer foams, additive manufacture using plastics, and injection molding.
Future teaching will include courses in German and English on theoretical and practical fundamentals of plastics and their processing for the Master’s Programs of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Technology. Teaching in the area of polymer engineering will be needed for the programs offered by the KIT Department of Mechanical Engineering and other KIT departments. After your appointment by KIT together with Fraunhofer ICT (Jülich model), you will carry out university tasks with a teaching obligation of 2 hours per week per semester.

Personal qualification
We are looking for a cooperative and communicative person with comprehensive experience in several of the areas above and an excellent reputation resulting from scientific achievements of international visibility or corresponding work in industry. Applicants should have leadership experience, the ability to work in a team, and teaching aptitude. A habilitation or equivalent non-university qualification is required. Applicants should be willing to cooperate across disciplines and to actively acquire public and private third-party funding. Moreover, they are expected to adequately participate in academic self-administration work.
