The Helmholtz Institute Mainz (HIM) is aninstitutional cooperation of the Johannes Gutenberg UniversitatMainz and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research GmbH inDarmstadt. It links the academic world of a university with thescientific possibilities of an internationally renowned uniquelarge scale accelerator center for ions. In the coming years thenew international accelerator facility FAIR (Facility forAntiproton and Ion Research), one of the largest research projectsworldwide, will be built in Darmstadt. The HIM research sectionSuperheavy Element Physics invites outstanding candidates to applyfor a Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Mass Spectrometry (allgenders) Reference number: 25.46 4314 for a two year contractstarting at the earliest possible date. The position is embedded inthe project on Penning trap mass spectrometry of actinides andtransactinides at the GSI in Darmstadt within the SHIPTRAP projectin cooperation with the Helmholtz Institute in Mainz. The main goalof this activity is the investigation of the nuclear structure ofthe heaviest elements by mass spectrometry. In addition, theproject aims at the development and implementation of novelapproaches in mass spectrometry with Penning traps and incombination with related techniques. Aufgaben The successfulcandidate is expected to: perform mass measurements of heavyradionuclides with SHIPTRAP develop methods for mass spectrometryof actinides and transactinides simulate and design experimentalapparatus for ion manipulation, contributing in improving theperformance of the SHIPTRAP setup participate in experiments forthe investigation of actinides and transactinide carried out by theSHE physics section analyze experimental data and preparescientific publications, contribute to the supervision ofBachelor, Master, and Doctoral students. Profil We expect: a PhDin experimental nuclear physics or a similar field soundexperience in mass spectrometry and ion traps experience in massspectrometry of radionuclides at accelerator facilities goodcommunication skills in English (both verbal and written).Knowledge in software development for experiment control, simulation software and data analysis is desirable. Wir bieten afixed term 2 years postdoc position with the salary and benefitsbased on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service(TVoD Bund) effective at GSI. GSI and HIM encourage theprofessional development of women and welcome women to feelparticularly addressed by the call for applications. Severelydisabled persons are given preference when equallyqualified.
