PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANISATION
To design market right products for the adidas brand as part of an international design team in cooperation with Innovation and development.
Achieving creative goals by delivering technical design support for visualization and execution. Manage and track the information flow by strong communication towards Design, Project Management, Innovation within a defined product group.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with designer’s to create prototypes ranging from initial look-sees to finished production quality lasted uppers, to be utilised during various concept and prototype review sessions.
* Support the Design Team with construction solutions for manufacturability, pattern logic, technical standards, as well as advising on material options.
* Provide solutions and think outside of the box.
* Provide the Designers with base shell printouts and last pullovers in order to receive designs back on these pullovers/base shells.
* Engineer upper shell patterns that effectively communicate the intent and integrity of the design, while building the patterns according to company standards regarding quality and fit.
* Create shells, pattern pieces with all markers and correct lap allowances ready for cutting in the sample room, with detailed picture and explanations for the stitching sequence.
* Support creation of in-house model shop prototypes.
* Ensure efficient process and communication flow between design, model shop and team members for all issues regarding the designed ranges and products.
* Complete all projects within the established timelines.
* Support the design teams regarding fit issues and design revisions.
* Transfer of CAD pattern files to appropriate storage and/or source country location.
* Use the internal database to keep track of the structures during the development process.
* Evaluate work processes for future improvements in close communication with the procurement team in Asia.
* Keep learning: take part in trainings for CAD and Pattern engineering and work regularly without a computer to help to develop the category’s craftsmanship expectations’.
* Pro-actively and physically explore new opportunities within pattern design; explore new constructions, innovative closure systems, new ways to last, latest trims, and future ways to manufacture.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Understanding different types of leathers, synthetic materials, and their properties.
* Familiarity with various shoemaking techniques, such as lasting, stitching, and finishing.
* Knowledge of shoe design principles, including aesthetics, ergonomics, and functionality.
* Understanding of foot structure to ensure comfort and fit.
* Awareness of traditional and modern shoemaking practices.
* Proficiency in hand tools and machinery used in shoemaking.
* Ability to create and modify patterns for different shoe styles.
* Skill in sewing techniques, both by hand and using machines.
* Expertise in shaping the upper material over a mold (last) to form the shoe's structure.
* Skills in polishing, dyeing, and adding final touches.
* Precision in measurements and craftsmanship.
* Ability to troubleshoot issues in design or construction.
* Innovative thinking for designing new styles or customizing shoes.
* Testing and improving of CAD software Javero).
Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:
* Degree in shoemaking preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Must have footwear CAD engineering experience.
* Good knowledge of product development, material and trims
* Product knowledge with a clear understanding of visualizing design concepts
* Knowledge of both PC and Mac computer software/systems an advantage.
* Software skills on PC or Mac (Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop
* Fluent in English (word and writing) German an advantage.
* Some experience of 3D/Digital creation an advantage.
* 4 years related work experience in the shoe industry, preferably engineering of upper patterns.
* Some knowledge of mold design, shoe design and hand making shoe process.
