Our Division is responsible for providing the ECB with linguistic expertise and support in the official languages of the EU, in close collaboration with the national central banks and national supervisory authorities. The Language Technology and Terminology team is part of the Language Support and Innovation Section, one of four sections in the Division. The team comprises six members of staff responsible for designing, managing and developing the ECB’s databases of central banking and banking supervision terminology in all official EU languages. The team’s language technology work involves providing expert support for the computer-assisted translation software used at the ECB, tailoring the tools to translators’ workflows and keeping abreast of developments in the field of language technology. Your role As a Language Technologist/Terminologist you will: provide terminology and language technology support to the ECB’s translators and lawyer-linguists as well as their external contractors; check the compatibility of documents with the ECB’s computer-assisted translation tools prior to translation and, if necessary, devise new workflows for new file formats or document types; help to test language technology prior to software upgrades and incorporate new and upgraded tools into the translation workflow; identify new language technology tools and test how useful they are for facilitating the work of the ECB’s linguists and their external contractors; help to identify artificial intelligence use cases in the field of translation and editing and support their integration into the linguists’ workflow. Qualifications, experience and skills Essential: a master’s degree or equivalent in translation, terminology, computational linguistics or another relevant field of study (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences); in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ professional experience in the field of language technology, terminology or translation; excellent knowledge of translation memory software and terminology management packages such as the RWS suite of translation tools; very good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; practical experience in the implementation and introduction of machine translation and artificial intelligence in the field of translation and editing; familiarity with the ECB, other EU institutions, international organisations and/or the financial sector; an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
