To strengthen our team in the area of the Global Supply Chain at the Trier plant, we are looking for a Plant Science Manager (Global Leaf Function) (m/f/d) in permanent employment.
Your job mission:
* Ensure a sustainable supply of high-quality seed & leaf, while mitigating current and future regulatory scenarios.
* Support tobacco varieties development to guarantee volume and profitability for our contracted growers and JTI’s value chain, while addressing climate change challenges and business requirements.
* Develop and innovate agricultural raw materials to boost consumer acceptance for Reduced Risk Products (RRP) and JTI’s entire portfolio.

Your tasks:
* Advise the entire organization towards the establishment and advancement of Agronomy Plant Science initiatives.
* Lead seeds procurement for JTI’s African Vertically Integrated (VI) countries and support, globally, the management of JTI’s seed supply portfolio.
* Support local agronomy/breeding teams in areas such as varietal choice, new pathogens/diseases appearance, and development of new tobacco varieties specific to the JT Group needs.
* Support the central agronomy team, VI or Integrated Leaf Supply (ILS) Origins, agronomy functions, third parties and government entities for delegated legal and procedural matters concerning seed importation, regulation, and appropriate storage requirements.
* Lead the information and materials exchange between JT Leaf Tobacco Research Center (LTRC) and VI/ILS Origins/Agronomy Development & Extension Training Center (ADET) for the success of our internal breeding programs and meet JT Group business requirements. Drive efficient, open communication between Global Supply Chain (GSC) and Research & Development (R&D)-LTRC for the development of new tobacco varieties that will meet future business needs. Be open-minded to external solutions and lead trials.
* Lead information exchanges and provide scientific support in plant science & agronomy areas into GSC and, at a larger scale, for diverse departments into the JT-Group (e.g., Legal & Regulatory Affairs, Reduced Risk Products, R&D, Marketing & Sales, Corporate Affairs & Communications). On behalf of Agronomy, lead and maintain an open and trusted dialogue internally and externally with peers (e.g., CORESTA, seed suppliers).
* Provide training internally, upon request, on specific scientific subjects.
* Ensure JTI’s compliance with regulatory requirements and effectively address the increasing interest and inquiries from external bodies and consumers.
Your profile:
* Advanced degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field. Ideally a PhD in life sciences or a master’s degree in a related field with a strong experience in the tobacco business.
* In-depth knowledge of scientific research, particularly concerning plant / agricultural science, genetics, plant breeding techniques, tobacco production, alkaloids management; with a proven experience in seed procurement, and regulatory compliance.
* Extensive experience in leading cross-functional teams, managing complex projects within multidisciplinary teams
* Strategic thinker with a keen ability to analyze and interpret intricate scientific and regulatory data, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills.
* Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral, further language knowledge would be an additional asset.
* Outstanding communication skills, demonstrating ability to convey complex ideas and concepts to a wide range of audiences. Proficient in leading and facilitating discussions, but also in creating an environment of collaboration.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
* Very good computer skills (MS Office).
* Practiced working time model: flexitime.
