We are looking for an exceptional individual to join ExoMatter as a Senior Research Scientist. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the development of new materials property calcaultion routines to further develop our Materials R&D platform.
Become part of a young deep tech and software startup based in Munich and revolutionize materials development with us. ExoMatter is a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and part of the UnternehmerTUM family of startups. We have a first product on the market with paying customers like Airbus and BSH and a strong upward trajectory.
Why are we doing this?
Our mission is to challenge the status quo of materials development to reduce the worldwide ecological footprint and increase the innovation speed.
We need you to succeed!
Do you think along these lines?
1. If you are equally convinced that only with more efficient materials, can we tackle the climate crisis
2. You are a maker and want to turn visions into reality. See your impact directly!
You love working in a dynamic team: trusting, exchanging feedback, and taking responsibility is most crucial.
Tasks
* Coordinate the deployment of computational materials science solutions based on density functional theory (DFT) simulations, machine learning, and thermodynamic models for material screening.
* Develop and implement novel materials informatics approaches for materials discovery.
* Contribute to the expansion and improvement of our material property database.
* Work closely with software engineers to integrate new models into our platform.
* Collaborate with internal and external partners, including academic and industry stakeholders.
Requirements
* You hold a PhD in Physics, Computational Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or similar
* You have at least 2 years of postdoc or work experience in industry after your PhD
* You are an expert in atomistic materials simulation methods from first-principles (DFT) to (semi) classical (MD, EMA)
* You have hands on experience in theoretical solid-state physics/chemistry
* You live in Munich or want to move to Munich within 3-4 months and are then willing to work ca. 50% of your time on-site
* Fluent in spoken and written English, German skills are a plus
Not required, but a plus:
* Background and industry experience in (scientific) software development
* Experience with AI/ML for materials science
* Experience in polymer modeling (MD, ML)
Benefits
* Competitive package of salary, (virtual) stock options, and benefits
* Attractive company culture in an early-stage startup
* 50 EUR per month pf public transportation ticket for Munich and entire Germany (Deutschlandticket) covered
* Flexible work hours with strong focus on work-life balance far beyond industry standard
* Free choice between latest ThinkPads or MacBooks for personal and private use
* Full time position, part-time work possible upon agreement
* Hybrid work with flexible arrangement between on-site work in our Munich office and remote work
Start date: as soon as possible
We find better Materials for a better future. ExoMatter developed a AI based data-driven materials R&D platform to help manufacturing companies find better materials faster with an edge in cost, sustainability and performance data. We create a shortlist of the top-ten material candidates from theoretical datasets with millions of materials specifically for the customer’s application. We do so through data mining & machine learning, enriching the data with own calculations and applying a multidimensional optimization algorithm (e.g. performance, cost, CO2 footprint).
