Reports to: Research Team Manager
Your role and responsibilities
At the ABB Corporate Research Center Germany, we research and prototype innovative technologies that shape ABB’s future product portfolio for sustainable automation, digitalization, and electrification. We work in cross-functional teams at the intersection of industrial research, end-customers, start-ups, and universities globally.
1. You apply academic research in AI and machine learning to solve real-world industrial problems from all of ABB’s business areas.
2. You will explore how graphs can benefit machine learning and AI-based solutions.
3. Your work will cover both generative AI as well as analytical AI methods; you will work with diverse types of industrial data, such as textual, tabular, image, and time series data.
4. You build proof-of-concepts and prototypes that convince internal stakeholders to commercialize your research results.
5. You work closely with ABB’s end-customers to develop innovative industrial AI solutions.
6. You participate in agile applied-research projects and work collaboratively with global ABB product development teams, ABB’s technology partners, and academic institutions.
7. You present your work inside and outside of ABB to expert and management audiences, as well as at scientific conferences/journals and trade fairs.
8. You secure intellectual property by patent applications.
9. You strongly develop your technical and soft skills to boost your career at ABB.
Qualifications for the role
1. You hold a PhD in computer science, mathematics, data science, or a comparable field.
2. You have deep expertise in knowledge graphs, as well as sound expertise in machine learning.
3. You have hands-on experience in software development (e.g. open-source projects) and ideally also programming for data-driven solutions, including data engineering.
4. You are well acquainted in Python.
5. Hands-on experience with MLOps and/or DevOps, as well as with Docker and/or Kubernetes is beneficial.
6. Proficient English skill is mandatory; additional German skill is beneficial.
