About the Role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a specialized global team, influence Swiss Re’s risk selection capabilities, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge risk engineering strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and Coach: Lead a specialized global team of Risk Engineers to positively influence Swiss Re’s risk selection capabilities and bottom-line results.
* Provide underwriting with assessments of risk quality and loss potential of single risk accounts.
* Guarantee state-of-the-art loss prevention services to our external clients.
* Develop holistic risk positions regarding new products and technologies.
* Risk Assessments and Underwriting Support:
* Provide risk assessments and other underwriting support services on individual single risk accounts (e.g., risk quality assessments, site visits).
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of Swiss Re Underwriting methods, systems, and tools for the assessment, costing, and monitoring of reinsurance risks.
* Risk Communication and Innovation:
* Drive risk communication and positioning internally and externally through white papers, posts, trainings, and risk services.
* Explore new approaches to augment and improve Risk Engineering work (e.g., remote sensing, drones).
* Representation and Engagement:
* Represent Swiss Re with senior-level client contacts as well as at industry events and conferences.
About the Team
Our Reinsurance Risk Engineering Services (RES) team is dedicated to providing technical support across property, casualty, and specialty business lines. We advise our underwriters on risk quality, loss estimates, capacity allocation, and loss prevention measures for both large global accounts and individual single risks.
RES Reinsurance is a knowledge and experience-driven global expert team. Each risk engineer contributes by sharing their unique expertise and knowledge collaboratively, forming an integral part of our company's comprehensive technical knowledge backbone.
About You
You excel at fostering teamwork and team spirit, motivating and empowering staff, and nurturing talent. As an outstanding communicator with strong project management and negotiation skills, you collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders and possess a deep understanding of key technologies. Your drive, pragmatism, and results-oriented approach enable you to implement change and tackle challenging continuous improvement opportunities.
Qualifications:
* Engineering degree tailored to local needs (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical) or a background in Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, etc.)
* Minimum requirement more than 7 years of experience in a comparable function in insurance/reinsurance; preferably ten years of experience as a risk engineer,
* Experience in Loss Prevention (fire protection, process safety management)
* Strong industry knowledge in selected sectors
* Proficiency in re-(insurance) product and value chain knowledge
* Preferably underwriting experience
* Familiarity with underwriting tools, applications, and guidelines
* Proficiency in English

For Germany, the base salary range for this position is between 131,000 and 219,000 EUR (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
* the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
* the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements.
