Chemielaborant/in Kaiserslautern, Germany Ausschreibungsbereich WER DARF SICH BEWERBEN? / WHO MAY APPLY? INNERBETRIEBLICHE Arbeitnehmer in Deutschland. Dies umfasst alle ortsansässigen Beschäftigten der US Streitkräfte, einschließlich Air Force und AAFES-Europe, innerhalb Deutschlands. Current INTERNAL Local National Employees throughout Germany. This covers all current Local National employees of the U.S. Forces in Germany, including U.S. Air Force and AAFES-Europe within Germany. UND/AND AUSSERBETRIEBLICHE Bewerber, die in Deutschland wohnhaft sind. EXTERNAL Local National Applicants, who reside in Germany. Hauptaufgaben Operates emission spectrometer. Performs pre-operational checks and calibration, to include warm up, check of electrical system through gauge readout, burning of clean oil and pre-tested oil for calibration purposes. Re-calibrates during operation at periodic intervals or when readings are questionable, suggesting the need for re-calibration. Pre-operational checks and calibration are performed in accordance with standardized procedures. If major problems occur with spectrometer calls manufacturer's representative. Following well-established procedures, "burns" aircraft/ground equipment oil samples obtained from serviced units, timing burns with data input into computer performed by fellow employee. Burn sequence is assembly line: Take one capful (standard sample bottle cap, eyeball measure) of oil sample, remove an replace graphite electrodes, place capful of oil sample on sample stand, adjust electrodes, then start burn; remove burnt oil, repeat process for next sample. Analysis of burn (ppm of metals in oil) is fed directly into computer. While sample burn is being performed by fellow employee, enters identification from Oil Analysis Request document (filled out by serviced activity). Identification data consists of, type aircraft, serial number, component serial number, date and time sample taken, hours accumulated since last oil change/overhaul, oil added since last sample, reason for sample (routine, lab request, test cell, testing engine, chip light). For each sample assigns index number. Updates data when changes are noted from Oil Analysis Request, calling activity as needed to verify accuracy of data. Computer information system is a menu driven program developed by the US Navy in CONUS. Any changes to the program are performed by the US Navy. Operates FT-IR-spectrometer to perform lubricant physical property testing which provides data on conditions that are standards of measurement for judgement of the quality of the oil. Tests aid in determining degradation or contamination of lubricant, which occur from combustion blow-by, oxidation from overheating, moisture from coolant leaks, additive depletion, etc. Evaluates results of burns by emission-spectrometer, analyses by FT-IR-spectrometer and other tests. Results are reviewed for any trends or abnormal readings, which may indicate component or lubricant problems. (1) Reviews computer readout of spectrometer analysis. Determines if readings are abnormal, either flagged by computer (based on limits programmed into computer) or by comparison to previous burn results (usually readout contains previous four (4) burns plus current burn). If amount of metal readings or trend indicates major component problems, defers sample for further tests and/or evaluation. (2) Reviews spectrometer readings of deferred samples. Determines need for additional tests or takes action based solely on spectrometer results (subject to re-burns). If additional tests are needed performs filtration, crackle, and/or acid test on deferred oil sample. Based on spectrometer, filtration, crackle, and/or acid tests may recommend a combination of the following: grounding of aircraft/deadline vehicle, resample, oil change, more samples after 5/10/15 flight hours. Resample may consist of grounding/deadline, change of oil, and one hour ground run/normal operation, then re-sampling. When tests indicate major problem in engine, transmission, or gearboxes/hydraulic, directs removal of component for tear down evaluation inspection in Corpus Christi, Texas. (3) Reviews spectrometer results of burns and analysis where readings were initially determined routine/normal. This review is a double check to insure all unusual trends and spectrometer readings, which may cause aircraft/ground equipment malfunctions, are detected. Performs administrative duties related to work, types reports, sends faxes and e-mails, answers telephones, prepares correspondence. Performs other duties as assigned.
