The Position Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than 400 employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval, and access. On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in clinical development capable to thrive in a world of rapid and continuous change we are looking to further enhance our footprint at the therapeutic area level. Therefore, we will extend our statistical advisor team representing a global virtual team of colleagues tasked to support clinical development within a therapeutic area by combining cutting-edge statistical methodology with in-depth area expertise. In particular, we search for colleagues who will support in the statistical advisor role focusing on translational medicine and clinical pharmacology (TMCP). In your role of a Statistical Advisor, you act on a therapeutic area (TA) level in both supporting clinical development teams on the integration of focus area related data into clinical development as well as initiating and performing statistical analyses with respect to this data at the therapeutic area level. Guided by the BDS TA head and the TA statistician you define strategies related to your focus area from a data science/statistical methodological perspective. You consult with clinical development teams to support the implementation of these strategies. Close collaboration with the TMCP department is a key factor for the success of your work. This position is part time eligible with 80%. Tasks & responsibilities - In your new role, you will act as a statistical advisor for all aspects related to translational medicine including biomarkers and clinical pharmacology - you will define strategies related to these areas from a data science/statistical methodological perspective to support the BDS TA head and the TA statistician. - You will collaborate with other BDS functions on driving statistical/methodological innovation with respect to TMCP related aspects. This includes the consulting of clinical development teams in the implementation of related methods and strategies and the coordination of the usability of data sources related to the focus area from external and internal sources for these teams. - As (Senior) Principal Statistical Advisor you will train and mentor other colleagues regarding the statistical aspects of TMCP related topics like biomarkers, pharmacokinetic data, immunogenicity, proof-of-clinical principle / early decision making, Bayesian methods, high-dimensional data, machine learning etc. - In collaboration with other Therapeutic Area and Method statisticians, you will drive and define the statistical methodological aspects regarding TMCP related topics. - Furthermore, you will ensure that these TMCP related strategies are aligned with other experts most prominently from the related departments. Additional tasks and responsibility of a Senior Principal position - As Senior Principal Statistical Advisor you will initiate such collaborations with other colleagues. - In addition, you will plan or support planning for respective trainings and mentoring. Requirements - PhD or Master's degree in Statistics or Mathematics or related field (Data Science, Health Economics, etc) with several years of experience as a statistician or data scientist. Working experience might be compensated for by broad and deep topic-specific knowledge with respect to at least one part of the focus areas - Advanced knowledge of statistical methodology related to the focus area e.g. within, subgroup detection, handling of high-dimensional data, modeling of longitudinal data, Bayesian methods - Advanced knowledge on the non-statistical aspects of the TMCP focus area - Advanced understanding of clinical development in particular for early phase development, decision making and submission work packages for the TMCP focus area - Proficiency in the use of a statistical software language (preferably R) to implement statistical concepts - Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally - Experience in working in/with agile teams and/or as a product owner is a plus - Knowledge in advanced concepts regarding data visualization and data storytelling is a plus - Fluency in written and spoken English Additional requirements for a Senior Principal position - Longstanding experience as a statistician or data scientist.
