The candidate will sit on the trading desk and work closely with traders and analysts, identifying power price forecasting models (Fundamental and Econometric) relevant for commercial decision making and developing the modelling landscape for the European energy trading team. The power modelling analyst is responsible for the whole life cycle of an application or a model: from the research/design to the development/implementation, input/output model data automation and the maintenance. This is an office-based role in Essen or London.
What we are looking for/ Role responsibilities:
1. Build up and develop the quantitative modelling landscape (fundamental and econometric/statistical) for the European energy trading team
2. Work closely with traders and analysts, identifying & developing price forecasting models relevant for commercial decision making
3. Leverage coding skills in close collaboration with developers (visualization) and market analysts (trading strategies) to develop efficient models which can be used to run scenario analysis, producing customizable user interfaces with a high degree of flexibility.
4. Develop, maintain and improve models to ensure stable performance and automation of workflows
5. Compile time series for relevant power market model inputs and automate model input updates and model result processing
6. Collaborate closely with our IT anAd Quant departments on tool developmentS
7. Produce regular reports to update on latest developments/functional updates. Creating detailed documentation on model development, processes and design
Who we are seeking / Role qualifications :
8. Educated to university level or equivalent with a significant mathematical content and/or in Engineering, Economics, Data science, machine learning. An educational background with an energy market focus is a plus
9. Demonstrable experience in market analysis from an energy trading background at a trading house, fund or utility
10. Acquired expertise in econometric/statistical and fundamental modelling preferably in a European context
11. Strong conceptual understanding of power market concepts such as security-constrained economic dispatch, unit-commitment, nodal/zonal price formation
12. Expertise in a mathematical modelling language e.g., GAMS, Python or Julia and familiarity with databases e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL including machine learning, optimisations and advanced econometrics/statistics
13. Understanding of European energy markets and interaction of commodities/markets
14. Excellent analytical and communication skills
