OPEN RANK: W1TTW2- OR W2-PROFESSORSHIP IN NEURONAL SIGNALING
The Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Professor open rank W1TTW2 or W2 (m/f/d) in Neuronal Signaling commencing as soon as possible.
The holder of the position will represent the subject of Neuronal Signaling in research and teaching. We are seeking early career or more advanced applicants, who want to understand neuronal signal transmission and neuromodulatory processes on the cellular circuit level by using innovative state-of-the-art methods including advanced imaging techniques or other approaches that are applicable to live tissues or animals. The research topic should connect to the research areas Cell Biology and Physiology of Signal Detection and Monoaminergic Networks & Disease represented at the faculty and should further allow for interdisciplinary collaborations across fields such as systems neuroscience, medicine, biochemistry, cognitive psychology and neuroinformatics. The successful candidate is expected to obtain independent funding, participate in grant initiatives (e.g. CRCs, Research Training Groups), integrate into at least one of the inter-faculty research programs «Research Department Neuroscience (RDN)» or «Protein Research Department (PRD)» and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Cell and Animal Physiology and Neuroscience for Biology students. The position offers the possibility to participate in various PhD programs at the RUB including the International Graduate School of Biosciences (IGB), International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN) and RUB Research School.
Depending on qualifications, the position will be filled as a W1-professorship with tenure track to W2 or as a permanent W2-professorship. In case of the W1-professorship, the appointment to a W2 position is made after positive (interim and final) evaluation, without a new call for applications in an appropriately simplified appointment procedure. An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality. Evidence of special suitability for academic teaching is just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum's mission statement. For the W2-professorship a positive evaluation as a junior professor, habilitation or equivalent academic achievement is required. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NRW.

readiness to participate in interdisciplinary academic work/ readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research
willingness (W1) or proven ability (W2) to acquire externally funded projects and to supervise doctoral theses
