The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena is seeking a postdoc for the department »Emerging Technologies« to work on research topics in the field of quantum imaging, in the group led by Dr. Valerio Gili. The group focuses on the development of quantum imaging components and systems. The ultimate performance limits of optical imaging made possible by the laws of quantum mechanics are explored. Quantum entangled light particles offer new possibilities for imaging techniques, microscopy, and spectroscopy.
What you will do
* Acquisition and processing of projects from public and industrial clients
* Independent planning and implementation of scientific analyses for imaging optical systems
* Carrying out research (publications, patent searches)
* Documentation and presentation of research results at national and international conferences
* Supervision and guidance of scientific, technical staff in different projects
* Supervision of student theses
What you bring to the table
* Completed doctoral degree in physics or a related field
* Experience in independently writing project proposals
* Demonstrated experience in project management of interdisciplinary teams
* Theoretical and experimental experience in quantum technologies
* Knowledge in building new optical/quantum optical systems for different applications
* Very good knowledge of German and English
* Leadership and teamwork skills as well as a high degree of independence and determination

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. The position is limited to two years. We are looking for long-term employment. Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
