The Position
Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval, and access.
On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization our intent is to create a learning organization in which people develop and deploy leading-edge data science approaches and technologies to actively plan, generate and evaluate evidence that shapes informed decision-making along the value chain.
Being part of the global function Therapeutic Area and Methodology Statistics, you work in the Center of Excellence Research & Development Statistics and support drug discovery research and development by providing statistical planning and execution, data transformation as well as all aspects of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics of data.
This position is part time eligible with 80 %
Tasks & responsibilities
1. In your new role, you will take responsibility for the planning and execution of all data analytic aspects in non-clinical studies and projects, including experimental design, data analytics and data transformation as well as reporting. This comprises the implementation, validation and provision of outputs and analytic tools according to company and regulatory standards.
2. Moreover, you will apply traditional statistical methods and combine them with cutting-edge data science methods in designing, collecting, and analyzing data from research and development.
3. Furthermore, you will apply your data science expertise to generate insights that make a difference for our patients by developing methodologically sound, pragmatic solutions and presenting compelling data stories.
4. You will collaborate closely with scientists and experts from various disciplines.
5. In addition, you will challenge yourself and enhance your business knowledge as well as your scientific expertise in a global environment.
6. You will be an active part of a global biostatistics and data sciences organization that covers all statistical aspects within the complete human pharma product life cycle.
Additional tasks and responsibility of a principal position
7. As a Principal TAM Statistician, you will lead and oversee the planning and execution of all data analytic aspects in complex non-clinical studies and projects as well as provide strategic input and directions.
8. Additionally, you will lead and guide other colleagues, internal and external partners on statistics and data science related tasks.
Requirements
9. Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields e.g. Natural Science
10. Demonstrated experience and sound knowledge of statistical methodology, design of experiments, as well as basic terminology related to pharmaceutical research and development and on processing information are essential
11. Proficient knowledge of and hands-on experience in relevant software languages, like SAS and R
12. Experience in providing statistical support and demonstrated hands-on experience about statistics questions from pharmaceutical research and development
13. Ability to pro-actively identify issues and solutions and to interact with internal and external bodies on routine issues
14. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within and outside of our organization. This includes cultivating a "We" mindset, demonstrating empathy, building trust, embracing curiosity, and showing courage, all while maintaining a big picture mindset
15. Oral and written communication skills to interact in interdisciplinary teams as well as the ability to effectively explain, visualize and communicate statistical information to non-statisticians
16. Fluency in written and spoken German and English
Additional requirements for a Principal Position
17. Demonstrated broad knowledge and experience in planning, transforming, analysing, interpreting, and reporting from complex non-clinical studies and projects
18. In-depth knowledge and experience regarding advanced statistical concepts as well as relevant software languages
19. Advanced project lead experience and exposure to agile project management
The level of knowledge, expertise and working experience that you can demonstrate with your application materials and during interviews will determine your job level.
Working experience might be partially compensated by broad and deep topic-specific knowledge.
