Job Duties
The Department of Environmental Quality, Blue Ridge Regional Office, is seeking a qualified candidate to plan, organize, lead, and manage the professional staff and operations of the regional Construction Stormwater and Virginia Wetlands Program (VWP) in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and agency guidance, to include: providing leadership, direction and guidance to staff; ensuring compliance with applicable statues, regulations, policies and procedures; budget development; and allocation of staff resources, funds and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
• Extensive knowledge of environmental engineering principles, urban soil conservation practices, stormwater management, hydrology and hydraulic engineering principles, wetland ecology and wetland science.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal water quality laws, regulations, policies and programs, specifically those related to the Virginia Stormwater Management Program, Erosion and Sediment Control, and the Virginia Water Protection Program.
• Knowledge and regulatory experience in the Virginia Stormwater Management Program and experience conducting local Erosion and Sediment Control Program reviews preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities in personnel and program management and demonstrated ability to lead teams to accomplish operational goals.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities in project management and personal computer operations (including word processing, spreadsheets and database management).
Additional Considerations
• A combination of education, training, or experience with major course work in environmental science, environmental engineering, natural resources management or in a related field.
