HQ AIRCOM is seeking a qualified and suitable candidate for a six-month temporary assignment as Staff Assistant (Public Affairs). A valid NATO security clearance will be required. Organisation Summary and Post Context\: The Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) is the Single Service Command (SSC) responsible for delivering Air and Space Power for Alliance Air operations and missions. The A10 Strategic Communication Directorate is to ensure effective planning, coordination and synchronizing of information and communication activities designed to amplify Alliance activities. Director A10 is a member of the commander’s advisory group, he acts as Strategic Communication (StratCom) Advisor and reports directly to the respective command group. The Public Affairs Branch shapes the Information Environment and enhances awareness and understanding of military aspects of the Alliance. It is responsible for public communication efforts within the HQ and for the development and co-ordination of Public Affairs messaging across AIRCOM enterprise. The incumbent of this temporary post is responsible to contribute on all matters pertaining to Public Affairs and media operations, and reports to OAC UPXX 0010, Branch Head (Public Affairs), OF-4. Main responsibilities\: Support Branch Head Public Affairs at various AIRCOM Working Groups, Committees and Boards. Prepare Public Affairs products (i.e. social media posts, press releases, webstories) according to StratCom guidance and NATO narrative. Draft narratives, rolling scripts, media messages, statements and social media content, to be used both for internal and external audiences, demonstrating sound political and military judgement and in a quotable style. Contribute content to the AIRCOM website, including fact sheets and infographics. Liaise with journalists and media outlets and address media queries, corrections and rebuttals in a proactive and accurate way within the news cycle. Contribute content to the AIRCOM social media accounts in order to inform public and to raise the awareness of NATO's air profile. Assess trends in Public Affairs media and inform Branch Head Public Affairs with the objective to update Command Group and HQ Staff on developments in public opinion. Support in organizing, conducting and producing Public Affairs outputs for internal communications, community relations events, press conferences, and wider media activities. Provide advice and information material (as necessary) to other staff agencies about AIRCOM Public Affairs activities. Liaise as requested with other HQs (mainly NATO HQ and SHAPE), MODs and respective national agencies in Public Affairs matters, and maintain contact with Allied and Partner nation Public Affairs Offices. Additional duties: The incumbent may be required to travel due to Public Affairs duties and assignments both within and out of NATO’s boundaries. Qualifications Higher Secondary education and completed higher vocational training in communications, public relations, digital publishing, public administration or related field leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 3 years function related experience, or Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification/professional accreditation with 5 years post related experience required. University Degree in Public Affairs, Journalism, Strategic Communications or related subject is desirable. Minimum three years’ experience working in “communication” framework including minimum two years of experience in a “media relation environment” (media messaging, media engagements, interviews, press release, professional social media content, etc) is required. Experience in managing website and social media is required. Experience in office communication and information systems is required. Previous experience in Public Information/Public Affairs domain (either in a military command or large private organization) is desirable. Previous experience in a digital communication office or in a press office (either in a military command or at large private organization is desirable. Basic experience in photo and video editing is an asset. Experience engaging effectively with media, with in-depth knowledge of the press and media in at least one NATO member country is desirable. Language skills: English - NATO Standard Language Proficiency (SLP) 3322, (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) is required. English - SLP 4444 is an asset. NOTE\: The work, both oral and written, in this post and in this Headquarters is conducted mainly in English. Personal Attributes and Competencies Incumbent must be a self-starter, mature, experienced, and able to anticipate problems and analyze a wide range of complex and dissimilar situations. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with a wide range of personnel from NATO countries; constant communication with key representatives within and outside of AIRCOM is essential to be effective. Integrity, credibility, attention to detail and accuracy are essential. Must be able to multi-task, organize and prioritize under time pressure and conflicting tasks. The incumbent will be expected to influence decisions and present balanced arguments regarding the best methods of communication, advising the chain of command as required. High level of organisational, coordination and communication skills. The incumbent must demonstrate an ability to convey complex or technical issues in clear, accessible and quotable language and a team- player attitude in a fast moving and stressful multi-national working environment. Contract 37.5 hours per week schedule; 2.5 paid days of leave per month worked; Six month contract period. The remuneration is not exempt from taxation.
