Job Description
The intermittency of renewable energy sources leads to flexible operation of subsequent processes such as electrolysis and methanol synthesis in power-to-methanol plants. For minimum levelized costs of methanol (LCOM) an optimization of the unit operations is necessary. Therefore, the following work packages should be addressed in your assignment.
1. During your thesis you will conduct an extensive literature research including the derivation of component prices.
2. You will validate the operation strategy.
3. Furthermore, you will select and implement a suitable optimization method for an existing process simulation.
4. Finally, your area of responsibility includes the techno-economic optimization of the process chain with respect to LCOM for different use-cases including the potential of heat integration and the identification of key parameters and their sensitivities.
Qualifications
5. Education: Master studies in the field of Chemical and Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering or comparable with good grades
6. Experience and Knowledge: in numerical optimization methods and programming (Python); basic understanding of water electrolysis
7. Personality and Working Practice: you are well organized, able to communicate effectively with team members and work independently
8. Languages: fluent in English, German is a plus
