Job Description
As a Category Manager at zooplus, you are the single-threaded owner of a specific category (e.g., Dog or Cat) within a designated country or country cluster. In this role, you lead and coordinate initiatives across multiple dimensions - including promotions, pricing, assortment, and shelf management - to drive topline growth and maximize bottom-line impact.
You work closely with various functions (e.g., Pricing), central teams (e.g., Own Brands), and departments (e.g., Vendor Management) to shape and influence commercial and promotional strategies. Your goal is to create alignment and synergies that effectively address local category challenges and opportunities for your category.
A strong understanding of category dynamics — including customer behavior, market trends, and the competitive landscape — will enable you to spot growth opportunities and proactively mitigate risks. You will also be responsible for continuously analyzing key business KPIs across sales, category performance, customer insights, and product data, taking action where needed to optimize results.
Key Responsibilities (amongst others)
▪ Pricing
1. Recommend local price adjustments and exceptions at brand/product level, based on the defined global pricing strategy.
2. Focus on Own Brand First (OBF) by identifying the most relevant sources of business.
▪ Promotions
1. Develop a full-year promotional plan tailored to category dynamics and local relevance; align with the central promotions team, Country/Cluster Head, and the global campaign calendar.
2. Monitor campaign and promo performance; track budget spend against local plans.
3. Launch short-term, topical, brand, or product promotions based on business needs.
▪ Shelf Management
1. Contribute to the product sorting strategy for PLP and search results by providing input to the Product team, in coordination with other Category Managers (via SME).
2. Define strategy and requirements for upselling and cross-selling via product recommendation boxes, also in coordination with other Category Managers (via SME).
3. Ensure strong visibility for Own Brand First (OBF) products.
4. Collaborate with Graphics and Shop Operations teams on category-specific banners.
5. Provide input for continuous QA processes and sign off on adjustments to category content, if needed.
