Senior Data Engineer – Berlin (Hybrid)
Are you looking to play a key role in a company where data engineering meets climate action? Do you want the flexibility of a hybrid work environment while being part of a close-knit team, with a diverse and lively social culture, working on projects that influence major financial institutions worldwide?
If you are passionate about leveraging data to help reduce carbon emissions and want to be part of a team where technology drives meaningful sustainability progress, this could be the perfect role for you.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll get a salary of up to 100,000 Euros, alongside a discretionary bonus. A hybrid work environment where your team usually like to get together a couple of times a week, in a vibrant hub in Berlin for in-person collaboration.
Additionally, you will receive 30 days of annual leave, a monthly transportation pass, lunch vouchers, and a generous annual development budget for training and personal growth.
You’d also be joining a company with one of the strongest social cultures we’ve come across, offering numerous social extracurriculars, yearly retreats and opportunities to connect with colleagues in a relaxed setting, ensuring a good balance between work and play.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll join a small focused tech team, where you’ll take ownership of all of the company’s data including the architecture and pipelines. Your key responsibility will be designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions that underpin the company’s climate data analysis tools. A core part of this will involve working with PostgreSQL databases and managing cloud infrastructure, predominantly on AWS, to optimise and streamline data pipelines that process environmental data at scale.
You will be at the forefront of supporting the company’s mission to empower financial institutions in making data-driven decisions that contribute to cutting carbon emissions. The work you do will have a direct impact on helping clients meet their climate targets, including net-zero goals, by providing them with more accurate and transparent carbon tracking solutions.
About you
You will have extensive experience in working with PostgreSQL, Python, and cloud platforms, ideally AWS. However, more than just technical skills, you will have a deep understanding of what makes a robust data architecture and a strong sense of ownership over your work. Ideally, you will have worked in a pure data company before and have experience in smaller environments, where adaptability and hands-on problem-solving are key.
In this role, your approach will be as important as your experience. You will have a thoughtful, methodical mindset, with an understanding of data governance and a clear vision for creating scalable, well-structured database systems. If you have experience with complex data migrations or have built systems from the ground up, you will thrive in this role, particularly in an environment that values autonomy and precision.
A bit about the company
At its core, they are a data company at the forefront of providing data solutions for managing climate risks, particularly for financial institutions. By providing granular environmental data and forward-looking analytics, they enable clients to effectively track and manage the climate impact of their investments, helping them make informed, data-driven decisions to meet emissions targets and transition towards a more sustainable future. Their work is critical in helping the financial sector reduce its carbon footprint and accelerate the global journey toward net-zero emissions.
With strong backing from a respected sustainability organisation, the company has seen significant growth and is now seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join them in advancing their mission.
