In this pivotal role, you will be entrusted with the global medical strategic responsibility for Medical Affairs for designated assets within the Therapeutic Area Eye Health, while directly reporting into the Global Head of Medicine Eye Health. You will also have people management responsibilities, including coaching and overseeing Medicine team members such as (Senior) Global Medical Managers and (Senior) Scientific Communication Managers. This role is highly complex and requires a balance between delivering high-quality outputs for various teams and building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key stakeholders both within and outside of Boehringer Ingelheim. Tasks & responsibilities - You are responsible for building and guiding the Medical Affairs functions within the Therapeutic Area by setting a vision and direction for the Medical Affairs team within the TA Eye Health. - You provide strategic leadership and work closely with cross-functional leadership that includes Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and other functions to ensure that the Medical Affairs scientific and medical strategies are aligned with broader corporate and medical community needs. - You are the key decision maker in internal committees regarding your area of responsibility (e.g. Member of Clinical Expert Committee (CEC)) - You contribute to and co-ordinate medical contributions to (pre-) clinical development and cross-functional Medico-Marketing-Market Access strategy. - With your expertise, you review and provide input into final brand plans, scientific engagement plans and scientific communication according to established procedures. - You lead your teams' collaboration with internal regional management and local operating companies, and external stakeholders to ensure insights are appropriately reflected across medical plans. - One of your key tasks is leading and managing employees belonging to your team, as well as establishing and maintaining adequate standards of people management e.g. training and development, communication, interface definition and processes. - Furthermore, you support the annual medical budgeting process under your responsibility as delegated by the TA Head of Medicine. Requirements - MD (specialist in respective TA) or PhD in a related field - Long-term industry experience in pharmaceutical industry with several years of leadership experience in Medical Affairs in the field of Ophthalmology. Clinical / pharma experience in the US and EU a plus - Proven experience in developing and managing a Medical Affairs team; leading and executing global Medical Affairs strategy including introduction of new medicines and/or expansion of indications to the market at a local and global level required. - Experience in registering products in Europe, the US and Asia - Experience of working in a global operating company and/or a regional/global environment - Strong track record of interactions with regulatory affairs authorities, international societies, and other relevant stakeholders - Profound leadership skills with managerial experience of teams of mid-large size teams and experience with organizational restructuring and change management - Excellent communication, skilled at influencing without authority - Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken, is required Ready to contact us?
