1. We are looking for a motivated doctoral researcher/ PhD student to work in the medical field of Cystic Fribosis in a third party funded project on the interaction of airway commensals and their metabolite to increase efficiency of CFTR modulators. The project will analyze effects of commensal oro-pharyngeal bacteria and thereof derived metabolites on the therapeutic efficacy of recently introduced drugs. It involves working with primary cells, mouse models and human biomaterial and applies a variety of biochemical, physiological, immunological and microbiological methods.
2. This is a joint project between the groups of Prof. Dr. Alexander Dalpke (UKHD, Heidelberg) and Prof. Dr. Marcus Mall (Charite, Berlin). The doctoral candidate is expected to work for up to one year in Berlin, followed by a second year in Heidelberg.
3. Master’s degree in microbiology, biology or related disciplines
4. Curious, enthusiastic, highly motivated, intuitive, willing to learn new techniques, and willing to take initiative to drive the project forward
5. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
6. Fluent in spoken and written English
7. Willing to work with experimental mouse models
8. Willing to spend up to a one-year at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin to learn some techniques
