New York University (NYU) Berlin is seeking a part-time lecturer for a course called "Introduction to Interdisciplinary Art Practice." The course is offered by NYU Berlin in conjunction with the NYU Steinhardt's department of Studio Art. The course is taught in English and runs approximately from May 19 to July 1, 2025. The course meets for 3 hours twice a week at NYU Berlin's campus at the St. Agnes arts studio. The sessions are a mixture of lecture, discussions, practical exercises, and guest visits and excursions. Course Description: "Introduction to Interdisciplinary Art Practice" is a dynamic course designed to encourage experimentation across diverse media and practices. Through discussions, hands-on workshops, and guided visits to contemporary art exhibitions, students will explore the intersections of visual art, performance, and new media. The course provides a platform for developing and expanding individual artistic voices while fostering a collaborative environment for cross-disciplinary exchange. In addition to weekly critiques of student work, the class includes engagement with readings, artist talks, and field trips to galleries and museums. Students will also gain insight into various interdisciplinary strategies, examining how different art forms can inform and challenge one another. We are seeking candidates with an interdisciplinary art practice, robust professional experience, and 3 years of teaching courses at the undergraduate level in a degree-granting program. Terminal degree (Doctorate, JD, MFA, MPS, MBA) would be a plus factor for qualified candidates. Experience teaching American undergraduates is helpful. Ideal candidates should be excellent teachers and accomplished professional artists in their own right, who can demonstrate an ability to connect theory and practice with young artists with a varying degree of experience with course themes, and encourage student-led inquiry in the classroom.
