Our client is an innovative and advancing US HQ rare disease biotechnology company, specialising in pioneering developments focussed on Oncology and relative Neuro-Oncology conditions with high unmet need (Both adult and paediatric rare conditions).
Following a recent breakthrough FDA approval for the treatment of adults in a relative rare Oncology condition, they are now advancing the next phase of the company build for the European market, with initial focus on the primary EU4 countries – Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
As part of this build, they now seek an accomplished and experienced Medical Director for Germany (national), to be based ideally in Munich and/or located within a commutable travel distance of Munich for a part office-based operation role (At least 2 days weekly).
The Medical Director, Germany will work as part of a new and collaborative growth group, with key input and evolvement of medical strategy for Germany wide, reporting directly to the Head of Medical Affairs Europe, and working closely also with the EU Medical Director (Both Swiss based).
The key operation goals at outset are the focus on the next build to launch for a further innovative rare disease development in the Oncology and Neuro-Oncology therapy field.
The position will have oversight and a leading direction within the German Medical Affairs function team, to include at least 2 regional Medical Liaisons, and in time, this team may also grow further.
You will be part of an exciting and innovative Biotech organisation that is now accelerating its footprint from the ground up in Europe and building a key team for the primary EU4 countries, Including – Medical Affairs, Commercial, Marketing, Sales, Market Access and Regulatory.
This Medical Director, Germany position will require an experienced MD who has a proven portfolio of builds to launch in Germany at a Country level. Your background will ideally include working within smaller developing Biotech or innovative areas of Pharma research with a rare disease focus, and ideally for the therapeutic areas of either – Oncology, Neuro-Oncology or Neurology/CNS.
The position will require you to be accessible to the Munich office operation – Ideally for at least 2 days weekly.
Highly beneficial market exposure sought includes: Having worked on ‘first to market’ rare disease indications and relative pricing structures and commercial build strategies in Germany, in addition to oversight of build platforms for Medical Affairs in Germany and working with key KOLs, peers and clinicians in key markets and small rare disease patient populations - Both Adult and Paediatric.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
* German national (Or) direct ‘in field’ German market exposure with eligibility for residence
* Location – Munich or surrounding localities within a reasonable commute distance (Circa 60kms) for office days
* Advanced medical/scientific degree required - MD, PhD or PharmD
* Direct experience industry relative in either: Oncology, Neuro-Oncology or Neurology/CNS
* Experience in upscale, pre-launch builds and commercialisation of – Rare Disease portfolio’s
* Direct industry experience – Circa 7+ Years, including 3+ years at a Director level, working at German Country level for at least 2+ years
* A proven advancement in career through Medical Affairs and R&D Functions – Ideally including Medical Management/Advisory or MSL functions
* Experience working in developing and innovative growth organisations ideally sought, combined with abilities to be flexible, and work in an adaptable and autonomous manner in a growing organisation, with a strong collaborative and team ethic approach to getting things done
* Ability to travel as required, both locally and nationally as required, or across wider EU regions
* Languages – German (Full proficiency) and English (Highly Advantageous)
