Logo The Faculty of Physics at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill the following professorship at the earliest possible date: Professorship in Theoretical Physics (W1 TT W3 or W2 TT W3 or W3) We are looking for an outstanding scientist in lattice field theory, who strengthens or complements the local research activities in astrophysics, (particle) cosmology, and heavy ion physics. Possible research directions include, but are not limited to, lattice QCD at finite temperature and density, with applications to astrophysics, cosmology and physics at colliders such as LHC, RHIC, FAIR, and EIC. The successful candidate will contribute to joint initiatives such as the Collaborative Research Centre »Strong-interaction matter under extreme conditions« (CRC-TR211), or the NRW-FAIR network and help shape future initiatives. Participation in teaching the curriculum in Theoretical Physics both at the under-graduate and graduate level as well as service in faculty and university bodies are further important constituents of the professorship. Formal preconditions for employment according to § 36 HG NRW areauniversity degree in a pertinent subject, special ability for scientific work, to be proven by quality of the doctorate, educational aptitude which is proven by appropriate previous training or, in exceptional cases, determined in the appointment process, as well as additional scientific achievements, which are to be assessed exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment process. The appointment as a W1 professor is initially limited to 3 years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years after a positive interim evaluation. In the event of a positive tenure evaluation in the last year, the subsequent transfer to a permanent W3 professorship is planned. In the case of a W2 professorship, the appointment is initially limited to five years; after appointment, a target agreement is formulated.
