As Head of Fleet and Research Operations, you will be responsible for the strategic management, financial oversight, and operational efficiency of the department. You will ensure the effective deployment of resources, drive innovation in marine research infrastructure, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the fleet.
* Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Maintain strong collaboration with scientific teams, ensuring alignment of policies and priorities across the organization. Act as a key driver of innovation and operational excellence while serving as a Management Team member.
* Operational Management: Lead the team leaders of Development and Support, fleet captains, and Fleet Office personnel, fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
* Financial & Strategic Planning: Advise the executive leadership on financial strategies, personnel planning, and operational improvements, translating high-level objectives into actionable plans.
* Fleet & Equipment Oversight: Manage the development, maintenance, and modernization of the research fleet, including advanced scientific instruments and onboard technology.
* Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations meet strict safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, guaranteeing a safe and effective working environment.
* Infrastructure & Partnerships: Drive the development of marine research facilities, building partnerships with key players in the maritime industry, government, and research sectors.
* Innovation & Future Growth: Support the integration of autonomous and remotely operated vessels, enhancing the organization's capabilities in modern oceanographic research.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced and strategic leader with a strong background in maritime operations, engineering, or research fleet management, combined with a passion for enabling world-class scientific exploration.
* Key Qualifications & Skills: Proven experience in senior management, preferably within maritime, engineering, offshore, or research operations.
* A higher education degree (HBO or equivalent) in Maritime Technology, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
* Certification as a Company Security Officer (CSO) and Designated Person Ashore (DPA), or willingness to obtain these within a short timeframe.
* Strong financial and economic acumen, with experience in budget management, contract negotiations, and strategic planning.
* Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English (spoken and written).
* A collaborative leadership style, fostering strong relationships with internal teams, scientific partners, and external stakeholders.
* A structured and decisive approach to management, with the ability to delegate effectively and maintain a broad strategic overview.
* Experience in marine research operations, vessel maintenance, or offshore project management is highly desirable.
