As our business embarks on an ambitious growth strategy, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Regulatory Affairs Manager to support our expanding renewable energy PPA, power trading and battery optimisation activities in Germany with a view to expand into other geographies as we further grow the business.
We have a small office in Hamburg but this role can be performed remotely across Germany with regular travel to external meetings and our offices in the UK, Denmark and Belgium.

As a Regulatory Affairs Manager, you’ll be responsible for providing timely, succinct policy and regulatory support to the energy trading, origination, asset management and business development teams.
You will lead on developing Centrica Energy’s policy positions on a variety of topics and shaping national and European regulatory changes as we move to a decarbonised energy system over the coming years. The role focuses on the understanding, analysing and interpreting of German electricity market design and trading regulation as well as rules impacting our renewable asset management and optimisation business (for example balancing rules, ancillary services, etc.). You will work closely with team colleagues covering other geographies.
The Regulatory Manager will be expected to:
1. Shape the progression of key deliverables and objectives to support delivery of the business strategy, realise competitive advantage and to protect the business from external risks and costs, avoiding / mitigating brand / reputational damage
2. Monitor the relevant regulatory landscape and communicate this effectively to the commercial and operational teams
3. Pro-actively intervene to change market rules in electricity balancing and wholesale markets
4. Working closely with internal stakeholders to develop, agree and deploy credible external lobbying positions on key issues
5. Develop and agree responses to consultations from Governments, regulators, TSOs and other statutory bodies
6. Ensure the business has visibility of upcoming regulatory changes and support the timely implementation of those changes in a way which maximises commercial value and strategic alignment
7. Engage with internal stakeholders at all levels to ensure that objectives and priorities are aligned at all times and to foster strong, mutually supportive relationships
8. Complete regulatory due diligence for new deals, business cases and operational readiness for market entry
9. Establish and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including regulatory authorities, system operators, trading venues, service providers and other parties
10. Credibly represent Centrica externally in industry forums, working groups and panels, acting on own initiative to persuade and influence others effectively and negotiating multilateral consensus on key issues
11. Identify regulatory trends to enable the leadership team to take strategic choices.
The Person:
12. A Regulatory expert with high quality strategic, technical, economics or legal qualification(s) and/or relevant energy sector experience
13. An excellent understanding of wholesale energy markets, balancing markets, trading, origination and the energy policy framework
14. Demonstrable track record of advocating with TSOs, exchanges, regulators and governments to deliver regulatory change
15. Effective engagement with senior internal stakeholders on business-critical issues
16. Ability to think and act strategically, identifying regulatory risks and opportunities and managing these effectively
17. Development of innovative and powerful solutions to complex proposals, preferably in a regulatory environment
18. A proven track record in influencing to deliver commercial value, including:
