Research Associate (m/f/d): Evotec, a leader in novel pharmaceutical discovery and development, is seeking a Research Associate for a collaborative project with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS). The project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, focuses on discovering new antibiotics to address the urgent need for tuberculosis treatment, especially in developing countries. As a Research Associate, you will play a key role in the interdisciplinary environment of academic and industrial research, contributing to the identification of novel chemical scaffolds with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) activity.
Research Area: Discovery of Antibiotics with Mtb activity
* PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, microbiology, molecular microbiology, or bacteriology
* Strong interest in natural products drug discovery
* Experience in natural products discovery, microbiology/bacteriology, and performing biochemical assays
* Knowledge of molecular biology techniques is a plus
* Experience in working at high-throughput scales, including automated workflows
* Good written and spoken communication skills in English; German proficiency is a plus
* Highly self-motivated with the ability to work in cross-functional and cross-site teams
Job Description: The successful candidate will be involved in:
* Discovering novel natural products with activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis using high throughput droplet microfluidics screen
* Generating new M. tuberculosis screening strains in collaboration with the TB team in Lyon
* Fermentation and purification of natural products
* Collaborating with colleagues at Evotec sites in Lyon and the HIPS/Evotec team in Saarbrücken
* Meeting high standards for quality and turn-around time of bacteriological tests
* Delivering accurate and timely data to profile novel compounds
* Planning, analyzing, and recording experiments and presenting data at project meetings
