Job Description
Quantum computing potentially offers orders of magnitude faster quantum-mechanical calculations for materials simulation at a much higher accuracy than classical ab-initio methods on conventional high-performance computers. It also allows true computational design of, new materials to improve catalytic processes or understanding of degradation phenomena on the atomistic level, which enables the knowledge-based optimization of load, process and operation conditions in devices like fuel cells.
1. In this PhD thesis you will focus on the development and testing of hybrid quantum-classical workflows, simulation tools as well as quantum-algorithms.
2. The research of relevant models for simulating industrially relevant materials on a near-term quantum computer is also part of your area of responsibility.
Qualifications
3. Education: excellent degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Computational Science with focus in theoretical solid-state Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Computing or related fields
4. Experience and Knowledge: additional knowledge and experience in density functional theory, Hubbard models or quantum circuits is a benefit, excellent communication skills, programming experience (, python, Fortran, C)
5. Personality and Working Practice: you are not only an open and outgoing team player but also a self-motivated, curious and inquisitive person who likes to use their creativity; you also know how to work independently, quickly understand logical processes and always keep an eye on the goals
6. Languages: business fluent in English, knowledge in German desired
