At the Molecular Proteomics Laboratory (MPL) of the Biomedical Research Center (BMFZ), Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and University Hospital, a part time position 23.1h/week, up to E13 TV-L (60%) is available:
PhD student (m/w/d)
in endometriosis research / protein analytics
The position starts from the 1st September 2024 and is initially available for three years and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The position is a qualification position according to the Act of Academic Fixed-Term Contract (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG), which is to promote the scientific qualification of employees.
Decisive advances in technology and method development in recent years have made it possible to gain detailed insights into the interplay of molecular processes in complex biological systems.
The MPL headed by Prof. Kai Stühler uses modern techniques of protein analysis including mass spectrometry, as well as cell biological and biochemical methods to investigate complex biological systems (www.proteome.hhu.de).
The successful applicant will work in the BMBF funded project Endofert. In this project, pathomechanisms of endometriosis - a phenotypically highly heterogenetic disease often associated with severe pain conditions and infertility - will be unraveled as well as proteins as relevant key players for pathogenesis and diagnosis investigated. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Work with patient tissue and body fluids as well as advanced cellular models
Apply state of the art mass spectrometry
Work with bioinformatic pipelines
Establish additional tailored methods for sample preparation
Work with robotics for sample preparation
Publish results in scientific journals
Master of Science degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Biology or comparable
Experience with protein analytics and / or molecular biological methods
Preferable experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics
Skills to handle bigger datasets/bioinformatic knowledge, preferable programming skills (R, Python)
Good presentation, writing and English language skills
Team player, but able to work independently
