Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Medical Affairs Europe, the Director Medical Affairs Germany, is a crucial hire for the success of the company’s ambitions in Germany. This is a unique opportunity to build out the country organization from the beginning and to play a key role in the global development of Crinetics. The successful individual will be responsible for building out the Medical Affairs function in parallel with the organizational expansion. This is a truly exciting position, offering the opportunity to contribute to the development and success of a biopharmaceutical company right from the beginning and to make a real difference to patients’ lives.
Developing the Medical Affairs function in alignment with global strategy requires a hands-on approach. Key aspects of the role include identifying and engaging with KOLs, research clinical networks in Germany, establishing local advisory boards, developing, and driving medical education and communications, and playing a pivotal role in any early access programs. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the design, evaluation, and execution of development programs as it pertains to Germany. More broadly, the individual will participate in key decision-making for the company’s Medical Affairs activities through participation in several standing committees and teams. The successful candidate will be driven to thrive in a biotech environment, be comfortable with ambiguity and will possess an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit. Although initially a standalone position, the Medical Affairs Director, Germany will in due course be responsible for attracting and recruiting a Germany medical team. The new incumbent will also be a part of the Germany Leadership Team and as such will play a key role in contributing to and developing the broader Country strategy for Crinetics.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Leadership of the Medical Affairs team:
* Determine the needs for a medical affairs team in Germany and build a structure in alignment with the Country and European Medical Affairs leadership.
* Hire the right talent for the needed positions and ensure an onboarding program that allows the new employees to perform.
* Set the goals in collaboration with team members and after cross functional alignment.
* Develop and Coach team members.
1. Medical Affairs Strategy and Tactics:
* Based on the Global Medical Affairs (“MA”) strategic plans develop and align Country Medical Plans for relevant assets and indications.
* Lead and oversee the execution on MA strategic imperatives and tactical plans to enhance healthcare practitioner education and improve patient outcomes.
* Build on established professional relationships with the Key Opinion Leader community and develop new relationships as appropriate to exchange scientific knowledge and identify current and future business opportunities, patients both for clinical trials and commercial planning.
* Work closely with the clinical development and regulatory professionals as well as strategic alliance partners.
* Provide Medical Affairs expertise to the Commercial organization as needed to assist in the development and execution of compliant commercial activities.
* Partner with various functions in developing a CME strategy and implement process for review and approval.
* Ensure the provision of Medical Information services in Germany, in alignment with global Medical Information.
* Support compliant medical affairs review of promotional materials.
* Other duties as assigned.
2. Membership of the Country Leadership team:
* The incumbent will be a member of the country leadership team and as such provide input in the country strategy and execute on relevant tactics related to country.
Education and Experience:
Required:
* Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP) and a minimum of 10 years of experience in a related discipline.
* A minimum of 8 years in a supervisory/leadership role.
* 2+ years of active clinical care or clinical research experience preferred.
* At least 5 years of previous Field Medical or Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
* Clear understanding of regional medical practice, clinical decision-making and healthcare systems affecting patient care.
Preferred:
* Extensive knowledge of Endocrinology Rare Diseases in field medical affairs is preferred.
Travel:
You may be required to travel for up to 40% of your time.
