Responsibilities
1. Identifying patenting opportunities in research and development projects according to the business needs of Evonik
2. Defining, obtaining and enforcing legally valid industrial property rights (patents, trademarks, utility models and designs) in Germany and abroad in accordance with Evonik’s business needs
3. Representing Evonik group and its cooperation partners before (inter)national authorities and courts on one's own responsibility
4. Challenging third-party industrial property rights, as well as defending Evonik’s IP against attacks by third parties
5. Preparation of expert opinions and evaluation of own and third-party property right positions in Germany and abroad prior to the launch of new products and large-scale technical processes, as well as in the processing of research projects
6. Participation in and, if necessary, initiation of the development and implementation of intellectual property strategies in international cross-functional teams and Providing opinion work to safeguard Evonik’s know-how and freedom to operate for research, development, production and commercialization
7. Monitoring and enforcement of compliance with applicable regulations and statutory provisions on patent, utility model, trademark and employee invention law
8. Advising on research, cooperation, licensing and non-disclosure agreements, in cooperation with the Legal function, negotiation of contracts with a focus on IP
9. Review and approval of new products, brochures, packaging and publications
Requirements
10. Successfully completed studies in chemistry or chemical process engineering, preferably in the field of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry or biochemistry
11. Successfully completed qualification as professional representative before the European Patent Office, or similar qualification at a national patent office (national patent attorney qualification such as German patent attorney) with relevant professional experience in the IP field and willingness to qualify as European Patent Attorney
12. Several years of professional experience in an industrial company, preferably in the chemical sector; Alternatively, professional experience in a private law firm
13. Preferably, experience in dealing with universities and other research cooperation projects; Experience in the drafting of IP related contracts desirable
14. Experience in managing complex projects in interdisciplinary teams
15. Proficient in English; Good knowledge of French and/or German desirable
16. Strategic thinking, negotiation skills, as well as strong customer orientation, with passion for research and innovation; Capability to quickly understand technological developments
17. Integrative personality with strong communication skills and team spirit in an international environment
