Our »MEMS Applications« business unit focuses on the design, development, and fabrication of MEMS components and MEMS systems.
In the group of acoustic systems and micro actuators, our focus is on acoustic microsystems. In this fast-growing field, Fraunhofer ISIT is an international leader in research on novel, highly miniaturized loudspeakers, ultrasound-based microsystems, and surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors.
The group of Prof. Dr. Fabian Lofink is looking for a PhD student who wants to work on a doctoral thesis in the field of acoustic simulation with a focus on surface acoustic waves.
What you will do
* Work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative research center in the field of biomagnetic sensing
* Development of SAW-based highly sensitive sensors and energy-efficient actuator components based on the new piezoelectric high-performance material AlScN
* Design and simulation of MEMS components (especially SAW components)
* Support and implementation of manufacturing processes in the cleanroom
* Characterization of the fabricated devices and establishment of the necessary measuring equipment
* Responsibility for adherence to the schedule, budget and project progress
* Documentation and communication of results internally and, if necessary, externally to customers
What you bring to the table
* Master's degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, mechanical engineering or comparable disciplines
* Knowledge in one or more of the following areas
o MEMS sensors and actuators, preferably in the area of surface acoustic waves
o Manufacturing processes in microtechnology
o Characterization of MEMS devices and layer stacks
o Simulation and design of MEMS devices
o Magnetic and/or piezoelectric thin films
* Good language skills in both German and English
* High degree of initiative and commitment, ability to quickly familiarize with new tasks and to take on responsibility in a team
* Enthusiasm for technical and scientific topics with a strong application focus

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
