Research Data Steward / Scientist (f/m/d) for Energy Materials Reference No.: IT 2025/2 As a research data steward / scientist for energy materials, your task at HZB will be to prepare the representation of research data along the workflow for the development of new battery materials. The position is part of HZB research data management strategy to develop infrastructure, tools, and standards to process research data in such a way that cross research centres and cross domain is aligned and allows integration in data spaces such as envisioned by the EOSC, NFDI, and Helmholtz. We are looking for a data steward / scientist who has hands-on experience in energy materials research, a talent for data structuring and modelling, and enjoys teamwork. As a Data Steward / Scientist within the Research Data Management Group at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, you’ll play a key role in advancing cutting-edge research by collaborating closely with the Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage. In this position, you’ll be responsible for the curation, handling, and harmonization of extensive, high-resolution datasets generated from operando and multimodal measurement techniques. These data streams often stem from complex setups and require careful integration to enable deep insights and reproducibility in battery synthesis and characterization. Working across scientific disciplines – including advanced beamline experiments at BESSY II – you’ll support the digitalization of workflows, empowering scientists with streamlined, data-driven solutions to drive breakthroughs in energy storage. Feel free to contact us Your Tasks Together with scientists and research data management staff, you will analyze the origin and usage scenarios of the research data. You will design data formats for the analysis and transfer of research data into different systems and design metadata schemas for the required data and interface formats. You will implement related workflows in an ELN. You will develop knowledge of research data requirements with regard to the FAIR criteria, including research into existing standards and recommendations for data formats in the scientific community. You will teach internal and external researchers and users about data and interface formats. You will be part of cross-organizational project work in the area of standardizing research data.
