We are looking for individuals who want to join our Team at the Public Health Command-Europe, Landstuhl, Germany Apply Now JOB OPENING - Title: Microbiologist - Location: Landstuhl, Germany - Start Date: TBD - Job-Type: Full Time SUMMARY As the Microbiologist, you will perform biological analysis of drinking water, food, bottled water, insect vectors, and surveillance samples for bacteriological, viral, and rickettsia contamination for the Public Health Command Europe (PHCE), Landstuhl, Germany. QUALIFICATION - Must be a graduate of a post-secondary vocational/trade school or bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a Microbiology or other related science field. - Language Requirement: Have the ability to read, speak, and write English. - A Minimum of five years experience in a laboratory setting. - Must be able to perform food analyses using standard biological methodologies. - Have experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR analysis. - Have knowledge of public health policies and regulations and the fundamental principles of biological, and practices applicable to the performance of biological analyses using various analyzer systems. - Identify potential hazards found during biological analyses where processes are of a conventional nature and literature on the hazard is readily available. - Must be able to investigate and troubleshoot methods during the analyses of samples. THE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: - Review, biological properties, matrix properties, and risk categories in the context of pertinent guidelines, regulations, and customer requirements. - Select methods and analyze samples in order to obtain requested data. Analytical work will be performed using techniques such as classical microbiology with non-selective and selective media, nucleic acid extraction and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), next-generation genome sequencing, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), scintillation counters, and other rapid microbiological and molecular techniques. - Recommend method modifications and/or implement and optimize new methods in cooperation with DA civilian microbiologists and microbiological technicians and will assist in the training of new analysts assigned to similar work. - Review analytical data generated by multiple team members for correctness, completeness, and scientific integrity, and report data using the electronic laboratory information management system (eLIMS.)
