Doctoral Position in American Studies (part-time 65 %, E 13 TV-L)

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy. The position is assigned to the Chair of American Studies (Prof. Dr. Timo Müller) in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies. Part of the ERC-funded project “Off the Road: The Environmental Aesthetics of Early Automobility” ( offtheroad.org ), the position will be expected to contribute to researching the corpus of early automobile road literature the project is compiling.
Your Responsibilities
* Doctoral research on automobile poetry, drama, or children’s/young adult literature in the early twentieth century
* Participation in project meetings and events
* Minor administrative duties for the Chair of American Studies
Your Competencies
* A good or very good academic degree (M.A., M.Ed., or State Exam) with American Studies and Literary Studies components
* Interest in early twentieth-century literature, modernism, or one of the genres in which the doctoral research will be conducted
