In this role, you will take ownership of model risk management processes, ensuring alignment with the latest regulations and industry best practices. As the leader of the Model Risk Management team, you will provide strategic direction, oversee model validation processes, and guide team members in developing and implementing robust risk frameworks. In this role you will:
* Lead and develop the Model Risk Management team, providing guidance, mentorship, and expertise in risk model validation and governance.
* Oversee the development and optimization of the model risk framework, validation methodologies, and governance structures to embed strong model risk management practices throughout the model lifecycle.
* Independently perform and oversee model validations for risk (Pillar I & II) and AFC models, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
* Act as the primary point of contact for model risk-related matters, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulators.
* Provide strategic insights into model risk exposure, ensuring risks are effectively monitored and managed in line with business objectives.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance model performance, governance, and efficiency.
What you need to be successful:
Background
* Quantitative academic background: Master’s in statistics, mathematics, business/economics, or a similar field with a quantitative focus.
* Extensive experience in model risk management, with 7+ years in model validation, development, or risk management, covering areas such as Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, Financial Crime, Finance & Treasury
* Strong leadership experience, including managing teams, mentoring junior colleagues, and driving strategic model risk initiatives.
* Deep subject matter expertise in risk and/or financial crime, with a strong understanding of relevant regulations (e.g., MaRisk, IFRS 9, EBA Guidelines, EU AI Act, SR 11-7).
* Proven experience in model risk governance frameworks, including model inventory management, risk ratings, and model validation methodologies.
Skills
* Advanced methodological proficiency: Strong knowledge of statistical and Machine Learning methods, hypothesis testing, and data quality analysis techniques. Good understanding of model evaluation metrics in various areas, covering both qualitative and quantitative validation aspects.
* Technical expertise: Hands-on experience with Python and SQL for model validation and risk assessment.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Track record in leading complex projects, ensuring successful delivery under tight deadlines.
* Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and solution-driven approach to challenges.
* Hands-on approach and eagerness to tackle new topics while demonstrating a quick grasp in conceptual project work and strategic thinking
* Fluent in English, German is a plus.
