We are seeking a seasoned and highly driven Head of E&I Development to join our dynamic team and spearhead the design and development of our groundbreaking wind-powered ship class. In this role, you will guide a team of young and passionate engineers and collaborate with a dynamic group of engineers, naval architects, and researchers to develop cutting-edge embedded and electrical systems for our autonomous, wind-powered ship class. Your tasks: Lead the technological development of the core electrical and embedded systems (sensors, onboard electronics, autonomy system, navigation systems) Define suitable and reliable system requirements to drive the internal and external product development. Provide the design of ship electrical and control systems. Provide power system and electrical load analyses. Prepare equipment and installation specifications. Prepare testing, commissioning specifications and procedures. Mentor a team of embedded engineers. Coordinate internal and external multi-disciplinary project stakeholders (naval architecture, mechanical, control engineering). Be on site at our second office location (on a temporary basis) to supervise the installation of electrical systems on board our test vessel Drive strategic make-or-buy decisions. Review and evaluate vendor bids from a technical perspective. G uide the development and testing of custom on-board electronics modules Generate detailed work plans, schedules, and budgets for project activities and oversee execution process. Work cross-functionally with other department leads and our CTO to make critical decisions and ensure designs will meet overall system requirements. Your profile Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field. 7 years of relevant professional experience in shipbuilding or the maritime industry. Experienced with electrical and control systems on ships including generators, power distribution, switchboards, breakers, motor controls, variable speed drives, fire protection, CCTV, lighting, cable management, data networks. Experience with on-board networks (e.g., IEC 61162-1, -3, -450, Profibus, Profinet, as well as Internet uplink / routing) and redundant systems (as known from, e.g., DP2 / DP3) Experience in autonomous or remote controlled systems is a massive plus. Knowledge of classification society rules and regulations, international electrical standards, equipment survivability conditions. Knowledge of power distribution design s such as o ne- l ine & 3-line diagram s, protection and control schematics. Experience in designing physical layout of equipment, tray, lighting, instruments, fire protection, controls. Active use of software for electrical design & calculations. W orking knowledge of C/C++ and PLC programming. Exceptional organizational talent with previous experience in project management preferred. Network to and experience in working with maritime suppliers. Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, results-oriented approach. Motivated, independent and reliable way of working. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a young and dedicated team. Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. Willingness to travel to perform hardware tests at different locations. Kitesurfing, paragliding or sailing experience (including associated certificates: SBF/ SKS) is a plus. Proficient German skills are a plus. EU work permit (CargoKite does not provide any visa sponsorship for this role).
