Summary of Job Duties:
The Farm Operations Manager (FOM) reports to the Director of the Rice Research and Extension Center (Center) and will assist with all field and plot-level agronomic production at the Center. The FOM will assist with the implementation and management of all station field and plot level crop production, e.g., tillage operations, planting, fertilization, pest management, irrigation management, farm records, and harvesting. The FOM will work with personnel from the Foundation Seed Program to maintain and manage all irrigation-related infrastructure at the Center, e.g., pumps, motors, pipelines, valves, moisture meters, flood-depth meters, etc. The FOM will work jointly with the maintenance supervisor in maintaining and managing all heavy machinery at the Center, e.g., tractors, combines, planters, etc. Furthermore, the FOM will facilitate communication and interaction among researchers, technicians, students, and industry-related collaborators to accomplish project objectives. The incumbent will work closely with the Center Director to ensure a conducive physical working environment for all principal investigators and their staff.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: A minimum of B.S. degree in agriculture, crop and soil science, agronomy, or related field; plus three years of related experience in farm management operations OR an M.S. degree in one of the fields listed above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of field research, specifically with row crops, and experience in irrigated crop production. Knowledge of standard farm safety procedures.
