Your Job:
At IEK-9, we are developing exciting interdisciplinary methods to investigate the key mechanisms in batteries and electrolysis using pulsed NMR. By understanding the spin states that have to be experimentally prepared, we are tailoring magnetic pulses to push the limits of NMR in operando experiments, probing for example interfaces or membranes. Currently, we are building the theoretical and computational infrastructure to employ quantum optimal control methods, where simulated spin models are directly used to engineer NMR experiments. At the core of this project stands the Python library JuMPO (Jülich Magnetic Pulse Optimization) which is currently being developed at our institute. It has already been experimentally validated and is to be expanded with other quantum control algorithms. Your tasks include:
1. Implementing state-of-the-art quantum control algorithms in a manner that is accessible to NMR spectroscopists and incorporating them into JuMPO
2. Experimental validation of pulses optimized with these newly implemented algorithms
3. Benchmarking pulse optimization performances
4. Exchange with experimental NMR spectroscopists
Your Profile:
5. Ongoing master studies in chemistry, physics, data science, computer science or a related field
6. Knowledge on the fundamentals of NMR spectroscopy
7. Experience in Python programming
8. Expertise on the fundamentals of electrochemistry and spin dynamics is desirable
9. Interest in interdisciplinary research projects and the ability to work in a cooperative manner
10. Ability to show initiative and work independently in a structured, organized way
11. Fluent command of written and spoken English
