What we offer you Scope of the master thesis is to model the energy consumption of computing hardware through ML models using a variety of different computation runtime metrics. Goal is to come to an overall model solution where - for different computation scenarios - the most relevant metrics have been selected and the total estimated energy consumption comes closest to the real-world measurement (i.e. high accuracy). Modelling can be done for differently sized computer hardware. You’ll make an impact by Understanding software runtime metrics/performance counters and their behavior: CPU usage, Linux perf/PAPI events such as count of instructions, count of cycles, count of branch misses etc. Formulate technical hypothesis and try to verify (confirm or falsify) this hypothesis, e.g. for still weakly modelled behavior in specific energy consumption scenarios. Mathematical modelling (e.g. linear regression, neural network etc.) What are appropriate modelling variants? Experimenting with different promising candidates for modelling Comparison Comparison to ground truth, i.e. real-world powermeter measurements (those measurement results are available or can be provided; not in scope of master thesis) What model accuracy can be achieved?
