Mode of Employment: Limited Start your career with an exciting thesis As part of our dynamic team, you will work on pioneering projects and can put your theoretical knowledge directly into practice. As part of our team, you will have Exciting research and development projects that put your theoretical knowledge into practice Individual supervision and support from experienced experts in your field Access to the latest technologies, laboratories, and resources Diverse opportunities to contribute your ideas and actively shape the projects Excellent career opportunities through contact with potential employers You’ll make an impact by In real-world industrial environments with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) applications, these autonomous robots must dynamically adapt to changing environments on the shop floor in short time frames and detect dangers immediately. Thus, AGVs are usually equipped with sensors. This thesis explores swarm intelligence using sensor data from a mobile robot train. The train consists of a remote-controlled locomotive equipped with a SICK LiDAR sensor and passive wagons carrying wireless vibration sensors. By analyzing vibrations from multiple sensors as the train crosses obstacles, the system reduces false alarms and enhances detection accuracy. Upon detecting an obstacle, the locomotive updates its LiDAR-generated map by placing a QR-code alarm signal, guiding future navigation and informing nearby trains. You will work with the Eduard Robot acting as the locomotive You will set up a wireless sensor network (WSN) swarm spanning across the wagons based on SmartMesh IP You will gather vibration data of the robot swarm when driving over obstacles You will perform sensor data fusion and analyze the collected vibration patterns You will modify the routes of the robot in the environment map created by the SICK LiDAR sensor by marking dangers You will automate this map adaptation process with a custom API (e.g., with Python) This is how you'll win us over You are currently studying Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field You have solid knowledge of embedded systems programming in C and proficiency in high-level programming language (e.g., Python) Familiarity with wireless IoT protocols (e.g., MQTT) is beneficial You have experience with the Git version control system Ideally, you have some experience with mobile robotic systems and Docker You have strong communication skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently You have a good command of the English language You are much more than your qualifications, and we believe in the potential of every single candidate.
