Job Title: Scientist / PostDoc - Molecular Biology, Library Design & Construction (m/f/d) Location: Düsseldorf, Germany Company: Numaferm GmbH Job Type: Fixed-Term (1 Year), Full-Time Start Date: As soon as possible We are looking for a motivated and creative Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Molecular Biology & Library Design team. You will play a key role in the design, construction, and screening of DNA libraries and molecular toolsets. You will also contribute to innovative internal R&D and support customer-driven projects. This role is an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies at the interface of synthetic biology, molecular design, and bioinformatics. The position is lab-based, including data analysis, concept development, and direct project communication with clients. Key Responsibilities Laboratory & Technical Work Design and construct gene libraries using advanced cloning techniques such as Gibson Assembly, BSA Cloning, Gateway Cloning, and others Apply bioinformatic tools to design gene constructs, optimize sequences, and analyze data Perform molecular biology workflows including DNA/RNA manipulation, PCR, sequencing, and recombinant protein expression Support both internal research and external client projects with high scientific and technical standards Client Interaction & Communication Serve as a scientific point of contact during customer project execution Present designs, timelines, and results to clients in a professional and clear manner Contribute to proposals, reports, and presentations Conceptual & Strategic Development Develop and implement innovative molecular biology workflows Evaluate new technologies for molecular and protein engineering PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology, or a related field Proven hands-on experience in molecular cloning and construct design Familiarity with gene library design and generation Experience with bioinformatic tools for DNA/RNA sequence analysis and optimization Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively Fluent in English and German (written and spoken) Additional Desired Qualifications Experience with the amber stop codon strategy and genetic code expansion Expertise in homologous recombination for gene knock-in/knock-out Expertise with E. coli cell-free expression systems Practical experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing Hands-on knowledge of E. coli small- to mid-scale fermentation Familiarity with recombinant protein expression in microbial systems Experience with bioinformatic tools for protein design and optimization, including rational design or AI-driven approaches (e.g., structure prediction, stability engineering, in silico mutagenesis) A one-year employment contract with a clear potential for extension A dynamic, collaborative work environment in a high-growth biotech company Flat hierarchies, flexibility, and the chance to contribute your own ideas Meaningful projects with real-world application in medicine and biotech The opportunity to grow with the company and take on new responsibilities
