Job description The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) is dedicated to defending press and media freedom across Europe. We monitor and document violations, support at-risk journalists, and advocate for the protection and enhancement of press freedom. Background: ECPMF is at the cutting edge of monitoring violations of press and media freedom across EU Member States and Candidate Countries through its Mapping Media Freedom platform. The monitoring is based on a comprehensive and comprehensible system of categorization of the violations of press and media freedom. We additionally report violations as an official partner of the Council of Europe Platform for the Protection of Journalism and Safety of Journalists. Combined with on-the-ground fact-finding missions and trial monitoring, ECPMF is able to produce highly detailed statistical-based analysis of media trends across Europe, which serves as an invaluable starting point for all kinds of communication and advocacy efforts. Responsibilities Monitor Press and Media Freedom in Germany: research, verify, and report violations of press and media freedom specifically within Germany. Lead the production of Monitoring Reports: Coordinate the creation of two Monitoring Reports per year. This includes setting timelines, organising editorial meetings, ensuring partners meet deadlines, and writing key sections such as introductions, conclusions and special topics. Oversee & Support Statistics and Infographics: Oversee and assist in the production of statistics, infographics, fact sheets, and social media output about press freedom in Europe. Ensure content is relevant, timely, and aligns with strategic goals. Coordinate FOIA Report: Supervise the development of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) report, collaborating with relevant stakeholders. Oversee Monitoring Partners: Engage in the active exchange with monitoring partners. Facilitate monthly meetings with monitoring partners to discuss ongoing issues, share agendas, and ensure collaborative efforts are aligned with ECPMF's objectives. Expand Networks and Outreach: Initiate and support new collaborations, represent ECPMF’s monitoring activities at conferences and events, and plan university training sessions on the MapMF platform. Support monitoring team in classification & publication when needed Strategic Input: Provide input on strategies for further development of the monitoring project. Your profile University degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Media Studies, or a comparable qualification. Proficiency in research, fact-checking, and written communication. Practical knowledge of Office software and content management systems. Excellent command of the English and German language (written and spoken); additional languages are an advantage. Strong team player. Personal commitment to the cause of press freedom. Ability to independently structure and take responsibility for work.
