Hauptaufgaben Serves as Fire Protection Engineer in the Engineering Branch for the US Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District. Provides fire protection engineering and life safety expertise throughout planning, design and construction of facility engineering projects in Germany and other European, Middle Eastern, NATO, or allied countries. Conducts design reviews of fire protection and life safety features of multimillion-dollar projects designed by Architect and Engineering firms, Host Nation agencies, and design-build contractors. Independently prepares the fire Protection and life safety portions of design development documents. Receives and reviews assignments in the form of design analysis, design concepts, preliminary design, pre-final and final design for a wide variety of projects which include but are not limited to: offices, warehouse storage facilities, logistics support facilities, highly sophisticated electronic communication facilities, military industrial facilities such as maintenance facilities for motor vehicles, aircraft, and missile systems, operations buildings and command facilities; hospitals and medical clinics; community facilities such as housing, hotels, shopping centers, commissaries, theaters, and schools, etc. Conducts submittal reviews throughout all design phases to verify fire protection and life safety design is provided in accordance with US Department of Defense and Host Nation requirements, project criteria, and military design standards. Makes detailed reviews of criteria, design concepts, and plans for passive fire protection features, such as fire-rated construction and safe egress paths, and active fire protection features, such as fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, and sprinkler systems. Interprets US fire codes and regulations and communicates effectively with the contractor's design team to communicate design requirements and ensure compliance with US and Host Nation criteria in a functional and economical manner. Provides fire protection and life safety expertise throughout the pre-award planning process, including performing existing site condition surveys, design charrettes, and developing Architect-Engineer Task Order Scope of Works or Design-Build Request for Proposals. Performs site visits and consults with various stakeholders such as building users, maintenance staff, and the local fire department to evaluate the condition of existing building sites or facilities and develop a new project scope to meet all operational needs and code requirements. Coordinates efforts with other architect and engineering disciplines of the product development team. Performs other duties as assigned.
